A great darkness lies thick across a land occupied by ancient, bloody gods who rule through fear, greed, war, and death. After Isha is orphaned at age seven, she chooses silence while imprisoned by soldiers, and fights injustice the only way she can, by obsessively cleaning for her cruel owners. The scholarly priest, Uzziel, flees for his life to start a rebellion in Jerusalem. Meanwhile, the slave, Joel, suddenly discovers supernatural strength, causing havoc in southern Israel.
