When Cotton Rivers wakes up from a tragic accident, she finds herself in The Sorting Place, surrounded by the tiny sparkles that she eventually realizes are the baby souls that fell away from her body over the years after one botched abortion. Now, she must reconcile with them before she can leave her temporary home. But where will she be sent-back to The Choosing Place on Earth, to The Rejoicing Place on the Mountain, or to The Regretting Place at the cliffs of the abyss?
Unfortunately, settling things with the little light she now calls Max, who experienced how it felt to be purposely "terminated" too early by the woman who had been his warm, safe home, is fraught with snags and hitches. And there are also the complications of her unresolved life in The Choosing Place that make her settling even more problematic. Time is running out for Cotton to learn what she must comprehend in order to reconcile with Baby Max and to discover her final fate.
