Mobile learning as a form of learning in continuing vocational training

'Mobile learning is becoming a cornerstone of e-learning' (MMB Trend Monitor II/2011, p. 1), according to the 2011 MMB Trend Monitor. But what exactly does mobile learning mean? Four megatrends in particular are emerging in society that are having a significant impact on the transformation of education: globalisation, technological change, demographic change and the shift from an industrial to a knowledge-based society. These trends are resulting in the internationalisation of markets and the rapid development of new technologies, creating a complex and flexible working environment that constantly presents employees with new challenges. Education and training are essential for participation in society, as they represent 'the foundation for a successful future and integration' (Microsoft Trendbook 2011, p. 2) and 'significantly determine career prospects and life opportunities' (ibid.).
