Every year, between 72,000 and 258,000 weapons cross the northern border into Mexico.

La violencia vino del Norte reveals the main factor behind the catastrophe Mexico has been enduring since 2007: US weapons policy. Without easy access to American arsenals, it argues, the massacres and corruption afflicting Mexico would never have reached their current scale.

The flow of weapons across the border isn't a clandestine trade; rather, it is facilitated by an "architecture of permissiveness" in the United States. This book shows how the systematic deregulation of weapons in the US not only made this catastrophe possible, but also engineered it, thanks to the money and power of an untouchable arms industry.

The evidence P廨ez Ricart presents in this book calls for a clear-eyed response. Because systemic violence does not ignite on its own, he points out: It is "funded and armed to the teeth" by forces that put profits above human life.
