Birth Ready and Beyond: Your Holistic Guide for Pregnancy, Labor, and Postpartum Recovery

Drawing from both personal and professional experience, author and physical therapist Buffy Stinchfield wrote Birth Ready and Beyond to empower women with the knowledge, preparation, and tools they deserve throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum recovery. With over twenty years as a physical therapist and specialized pelvic health practice since 2010, Stinchfield brings a grounded, evidence-based approach to supporting women through one of the most transformative seasons of their lives.

Too often, pre- and postnatal care focuses almost exclusively on the baby, leaving mothers without clear guidance for their own physical, emotional, and functional well-being. Birth Ready and Beyond was created to change that narrative by offering a more complete approach to birth preparation and recovery that centers the mother as well.

Informed by her clinical work and the success of her birth readiness education, Stinchfield teaches foundational skills such as preparing the pelvic floor for birth, coordinating breath and deep core, practicing prenatal strength and mobility exercises for birth preparation, understanding effective pushing, exploring supportive labor and pushing positions, and using simple, accessible birth tools to support labor and early postpartum recovery.

Designed as both an educational guide and an interactive resource, Birth Ready and Beyond blends narrative insight with practical tools, including illustrated prenatal and postpartum exercises, self-assessments, journaling prompts, nourishing recipes, and realistic self-care practices. Each section is intentionally organized for easy navigation, allowing readers to return to the book again and again as their needs change.

This is the book Stinchfield wishes she could have given her past self-and one she now offers to every woman seeking confidence, clarity, and empowerment through pregnancy and beyond.
