Policies for the Future of Fisheries and Aquaculture in Peru

Peru ranks among the world's largest fish producers with 5.5 million tonnes in 2022-equivalent to 3% of global fisheries and aquaculture production. The majority (97%) of production comes from marine capture fisheries, which rely heavily on the Peruvian anchoveta (77% of marine capture production), and which also underpins a significant share of global fishmeal and fish oil supply, placing Peru at the centre of international seafood value chains.
