In his introduction to this powerful book, Coach "BigDawg" Gus Felder writes, "This book isn't just about how to lift more weight, run faster, or design a better program. It's about how to lead, how to take the position God has given you and use it to make others better in every way."
Whether it's a young coach stepping into a first job or a veteran looking for a fresh spark, the stories, principles, and scriptures set down in these pages will challenge and encourage readers of all ages to "leave every place, every program, and every person better than we found them."
Felder has lived these principles through his career in coaching high school and college athletics, through his time as an NFL player and strength coach, and now in his position at the University of Nebraska. "Through it all," he insists, "God's hand has been steady in my life. He didn't just place me in those programs to build stronger athletes. He put me there to build stronger people. The weight room became my ministry. It became a place where discipline met faith, where the grind of sets and reps mirrored the grind of life, and where a coach could speak into an athlete's future long before the scoreboard showed a win."
