Leadership behaviour and its impact on burnout

"The health and wellbeing of staff must be regarded as a management responsibility, and in the face of rapidly changing working conditions, a greater focus on staff is essential." This is the guiding principle of the European Network for Workplace Health Promotion. Does this statement hold true in reality? The author explores this question by speaking to people from various sectors who have experienced burnout in the course of their everyday working lives and have overcome it with the help of therapy, self-awareness and/or a change of job. Theoretical insights into key aspects of leadership and burnout provide an overview. Eight interviews with experts offer insights into highly personal experiences. The study shows that managers' behaviour can either reinforce or reduce certain behavioural patterns among employees. The issue of 'personal responsibility' is growing in importance. So what now? Burnout - a buzzword, a personal weakness, or an individual crisis of life and personal growth?
