Elementals of Etan
In the kingdom of Etan there are Elementals, women who can control the very elements. Then there are tethers, men born of Elementals and collared. When power accumulates in an Elemental, the tether is used to drain that power back into the earth.
What if an Elemental couldn't bear to collar her son and he was raised free? What are tethers capable of without the collars that have been used for thousands of years?
When war comes to Etan, young Darius is conscripted into the Etani Guard with metal in his blood and an affinity for the sword. Can he keep his abilities secret? Can he do his duty and yet remain free?
