The Shield of Erebus

Meet the Tras. Quixotic Mushroom Knights of the English woodland who live and die by an ancient code:

To live by honour and for glory.

To never refuse a challenge from an equal.

To protect the weak and defenceless.

To guard the honour of fellow knights.

To refrain from the wanton giving of offence.

To despise payment and fight for the welfare of all.

To reject unfairness, meanness and deceit.

To persevere to the end in any enterprise begun.

But something is missing from the code. Tra society is protected by a mysterious Shield of Erebus, created to protect them from the devastating effects of light and truth. When scheming Mowlip Thistle warriors steal the shield, the Tras face the threat of extinction. In desperation the Tras turn to an unlikely hero; a cowardly dissident called Fidget, tasking him to travel to Iglot - the Mowlip's frozen homeland - to get it back. What he discovers is more terrifying, and more hopeful than he could have imagined.

Blending elements of Viking folklore and Christian faith, The Shield of Erebus is a lavishly illustrated 12,000 word fantasy adventure poem following Fidget's journey as he discovers seven virtues: Courage, Wisdom, Justice, Temperance, Faith, Love, and Hope - only to find that something else is needed to defeat the darkness.

Written in a fun, bouncy accessible style The Shield of Erebus is suitable for children as young as seven to mature adults. Unashamedly Christian, the poem lays out in clear terms the 'why' of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
