What if everything a dog will ever be is decided in its first eight weeks?
In Eight Weeks and Beyond, Pauline Gill weaves a powerful memoir of survival and resilience with a masterclass in ethical, purpose-driven dog breeding. This is not just a book for dog lovers; it is a manifesto for anyone who believes that the bond between human and dog can be a lifeline.
Pauline's story is one of triumph over a broken childhood, undiagnosed dyslexia, and a life-threatening cancer that left her with a "guarded" prognosis. Through it all, dogs were her salvation from a childhood spent walking with a fox and a German Shepherd in England, to the Kelpie, Biddy, who pulled her from the depths of depression.
But Eight Weeks and Beyond is more than a personal journey. It is a call to action for better breeding.
After a seminar where a trainer berated breeders for creating problems for trainers, Pauline went on a decade-long quest to find the answer to a single question: What can a breeder do better? The result is the Tapua Method, a science-based program that leverages Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Sensory Introduction (ESI) to create puppies with extraordinary potential.
Inside this book, you will discover:
A Gripping Memoir: From the trauma of war and family breakdown to finding love and purpose with her husband, Pete.
The Science of Puppy Raising: A detailed, week-by-week guide to the Tapua Puppy Program, from whelping to eight weeks, including the exact protocols for ENS and ESI.
Practical Breeding Advice: Navigating genetics, health testing (hips, elbows, DNA), and the ethical responsibilities of a modern breeder.
Real-Life Impact: A collection of powerful case studies featuring Tapua Labradors working as veteran and first-responder assistance dogs, medical alert dogs for children with diabetes and epilepsy, and sporting champions.
Eight Weeks and Beyond is for the breeder who wants to do better, the trainer who wonders why some puppies just "have it," and the family waiting years for a dog that could change their lives. It proves that a dog bred with intention, raised with science, and placed with purpose is not just a pet-it is a partner, a lifeline, and a miracle on four legs.
Welcome to Tapua.
