The Bible has been called "The Good Book," But is it? Good, that is, Have you actually read it? Not just the verses that were spoon-fed to you in church, but all of it?
The Bible is also thought to be the "Word of God." The implication there, of course, is that the Bible is truthful because what believer would call it the Word of God if it contained lies? But is it truthful? Do you really think that the old tales told in the Bible actually happened?
Is the Bible good? Is it truthful? Can we believe it? Should we believe it?
Joe Novak, author of A Lifetime of Resisting Religious Blather, set out to answer those questions. He has read the Bible, book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse, word by word, and logged its atrocities, immoralities, and absurdities along the way. Within these pages, you'll see his tabulated findings for each book of the Bible. Joe doesn't claim to have listed each and every atrocity, immorality, and absurdity in the Bible, in fact, you may find even more, or you may find a few less. But the fact is that the Bible is loaded with atrocities, immoralities, and absurdities. That is his point.
After performing this detailed exercise, Joe doesn't view the Bible as a good book based on the number of atrocities and immoralities that he found after reading every page; and he doesn't fi nd it to be truthful based on the number of absurdities found within its covers.
Read the Bible for yourself, every page of it. And read what Joe has found after he did just that. He expects that you'll fi nd something similar to what he found -- that the Bible is not "Th e Good Book," and that it is not truthful -- and he says that we don't have to agree on the exact numbers of atrocities, immoralities, and absurdities to agree on that.
