A MEMOIR OF FIRE, FAITH, AND PERSEVERANCE
Before he was a Battalion Chief, David Reddix Sr. was a thirteen-year-old kid getting kicked out of school in 1978 - written off by everyone who knew him.
He didn't know it then, but he already had what mattered most: he didn't know how to quit.
From a shotgun shack in Shreveport, Louisiana, never knowing his father, being raised by a single mother of six while on government assistance in one of the notorious and toughest housing projects in south Los Angeles (Nickerson Gardens), to commanding and leading one of the largest metropolitan fire departments in the nation - Reddix's thirty-three-year journey through the Los Angeles Fire Department is a testament to persistence over ease, and faith over fear. Three attempts at becoming a Battalion Chief would have discouraged most into quitting - but not David. He persevered until he succeeded.
I Don't Know How to Quit is a memoir about fire, faith, and the refusal to give up - proof that where you start doesn't have to determine where you finish.
"He is an example I point to often because his story is similar to my own father."
- Pastor Reginald Woods
