最初的 BSAVA 系列叢書小動物骨折修復與處置手冊是由 Andrew Coughlan 與 Andrew Miller所編著，且多年來一直是小動物臨床獸醫師在進行外科手術前的重要教科書。1998 年出版的原始手冊，其風格在當時堪稱是獨一無二的，提供了詳細但容易閱讀的內容，並且搭配清晰的彩色插圖，完美解釋操作技術的細節。近年來，很少有外科獸醫師沒有在施行外科手術前參考此手冊的指導原則。這本原版手冊的影響力是如此之大，近年來 BSAVA 都以該手冊為模板，出版後續其他獸醫學領域的系列叢書。如同其他領域一樣，自第一版手冊出版之後，骨折手術迅速發展。影像成像方式與植入物系統的進步已經顯著提升我們治療骨折病患的能力。骨折治療基本原則持續的被重新定義與評價，亦已改變了許多病例的處置方式。因此，許多曾被認為無法恢復的骨折，現在都可以成功治療。對於忙碌的執業獸醫師而言，及時追蹤與了解這些變化可能並不容易，現在是時候以新手冊的形式來統整這些發展與進步了。在這本新手冊，我們旨在保留第一版的用語風格，使用相同清晰的格式，將章節分為涵蓋基本原則、不同的解剖區域及併發症等部分。原版手冊中各章節的內容都經過大範圍的修改，以說明過去二十年來所發生的進展，並引入數個新的章節，以涵蓋包括微創骨折手術等新興領域。此手冊保留了上一版當中實用的原始線圖，並增加了新的內容，使得執業獸醫師在面對特定骨折時可以快速獲得重要的資訊。此外，亦增加了臨床影像及病例，使得描述的概念更加具體化。一群來自英國及海外的著名獸醫師共同撰寫這本手冊，提供其豐富的臨床經驗，並使內容適用於世界各國。我們希望新的手冊對於任何參與小動物骨折處置的人員都具有價值及吸引力，包含獸醫助理、獸醫系學生、全科獸醫師、住院獸醫師、影像診斷師及骨科專科外科獸醫師。此書由臺灣獸醫外科專科醫學會幫忙審閱合作出版繁體中文版審閱： 國立中興大學獸醫系教授暨獸醫教學醫院一般外科主任　李衛民 教授小王子動物醫院院長　林建良 獸醫師國立台灣大學獸醫系助理教授暨附設動物醫院小動物外科主任　武敬和 助理教授國立中興大學獸醫系副教授暨獸醫教學醫院影像診斷科主任　陳冠升 教授國立臺灣大學臨床動物醫學研究所教授　葉力森 教授伊甸動物醫院外科獸醫師　張家銘 獸醫師國立屏東科技大學獸醫系助理教授暨獸醫教學醫院小動物外科主任　鍾承澍 助理教授
