Graph Structures for Knowledge Representation and Reasoning

The term "Enlightenment" still carries its tie to a grand philosophical tradition that in Britain moves through Bacon, Locke, and Hume. But the literature and philosophy of the Enlightenment was full of practical knowledge associated with the body and with craft. This book is an account of the eighteenth-century thinkers from across social classes who turned to the body to formulate new ways of knowing natural and social worlds—what Ruth Mack calls handicraft philosophies. The writers discussed in this book include a formerly enslaved man, Olaudah Equiano, and a washerwoman, Mary Collier, as well as gentlemen Joseph Banks and James Boswell, and the artist William Hogarth. In their efforts to communicate embodied ways of knowing, they bring together theory and practice; they set aside objectivity and relish the practical ways of knowing that are traditionally associated with lower classes and less-than-privileged bodies. Mack focuses on how such knowledge proved especially helpful for u

序The publisher invites Japanese readers and Satoyama supporters to spread these stories of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature in rural communities in Taiwan, and to keep telling the story of the Satoyama Initiative. Let us keep learning from one another through exchange, strengthening the friendship between Taiwan and Japan on the road to landscape restoration, and contributing to global biodiversity. We are all in this together, and we can do it together.內容簡介There are four books in the set, about four rural communities in Taiwan. First, The Spring on the Highland explains how two generations of farmers in Gonglaoping, Fengyuan District, Taichung enjoy the fruits of kinship with the land following the restoration of the spring on the highland. Second, Farming Village Co. Unlimited is about a Satoyama-inspired enterprise based on crop diversification and creative local produce marketing in Gongrong, Sanzhi District, New Taipei City. Third, Letters the Blue Sea Wrote to t

Knowledge management and knowledge-based intelligence are areas of importance in the economy and society, and to exploit them fully and efficiently it is necessary both to represent and reason about knowledge via a declarative interface whose input language is based on logic. In this book, originally published in 2003, Chitta Baral shows exactly how to go about doing that: how to write programs that behave intelligently by giving them the ability to express knowledge and reason about it. He presents a language, AnsProlog, for both knowledge representation and reasoning, and declarative problem solving. The results have been organised here into a form that will appeal to practising and would-be knowledge engineers wishing to learn more about the subject, either in courses or through self-teaching. A comprehensive bibliography rounds off the book.
