《學界藥品開發實用指南：SPARK方法論》並非是一本教讀者「如何製藥」的操作手冊，而是集結「史丹佛大學SPARK計畫」十餘年來的轉譯研究產學實務，試圖闢出一條「扭轉學界思維、活用業界實務」的藥品研發之路。「SPARK計畫」的特色在於匯集化學、生物學、藥理學、毒理學、醫學、法規科學、統計學、創投、商業等各領域專家擔任業師群，讓學界研究人員與業界專家得以在研發過程持續交流學習，進而提高轉譯成功率。關於SPARK Taiwan計畫臺灣自2012年導入美國史丹佛大學「Stanford SPARK計畫」，並由科技部生命科學發展司與國家實驗研究院科技政策研究與資訊中心共同成立「SPARK Taiwan 計畫」並推動「生醫與醫材轉譯加值人才培訓計畫」。此計畫希望借鏡史丹佛大學的成功經驗，協助臺灣學術研究機構建立校內輔導轉譯商品化機制、同時培育生醫產業人才，以期縮短學術研發成果與業界商品開發之間的落差，並彌補生醫產業人才的缺口。SPARK Taiwan計畫至今已培訓超過300個學術研究團隊、直接／間接輔導新創公司成立約50件、技術移轉30件、近80件進入臨床實驗、50多件獲選大型計畫補助，以及超過百件參加國內外創新展／賽獲獎（如國家新創獎及FITI創業傑出獎等）。SPARK Taiwan期待，透過這套教材的翻譯與發行，能對臺灣生技人才培育及生技產業生態圈發展有更大的助益。
