The present volume originates from “The Fourth Asian Translation Traditions Conference” held in Hong Kong in December 2010. The conference generated stimulating discussions relating to the richness and diversity of non-Western discourses and practices of translation, focusing on translational exchanges between non-Western languages, and the change and continuity in Asian translation traditions. Translation and Global Asia shows a rich diversification of historical and geographical interests, and covers a broad array of topics, ranging from ninth-century Buddhist translation in Tibet to twenty-first-century political translation in Malaysia. In Christianity and Education in Modern China, Wong Man Kong, George Kam Wah Mak, and other contributors demonstrate how Christianity served as a driving force in the development of modern education in China. Each of the chapters offers new insights into Christian involvement in different issues concerning education in modern China. The contributors examine how Christian missionaries and Chinese Christian educators interacted with China’s social, cultural, and political contexts. Also explored are the Christian legacies of higher education in mainland China and Taiwan, as well as how the spirit of Christian higher education in modern China has been carried on in Asia. This volume suggests that Western missionary and Chinese Christian perspectives of higher education were complementary with each other in modern China.

U.S.-China Relations and the Changing Security Dynamics in East Asia collects 9 papers which were presented at the annual conference of the Graduate Institute of International Affairs and Strategic Studies, Tamkang University. Drawing on extensive historical studies of the lives and works of distinctive yet understudied sinologists in the Czech Republic, Mongolia, Poland, and Russia, this volume takes readers on a journey of exploration and rediscovery of post-communist sinology—an important topic that we know surprisingly little about. After the end of the Cold War, the China Studies research agenda in these four countries has evolved divergently without any apparent shared orientation, despite the previously shared socialist and Communist legacies. Contributors draw on case studies to illustrate how sinologists in these countries actively use diverse approaches to map China’s modern evolution and deconstruct stereotypical notions of China’s rise in the twenty-first century. Developmental social work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaborations and believes it can accurately respond to the issues and the needs of our society. Therefore, more and more non-profit organizations are involved in this field. In Taiwan, the recent social issues, such as the poverty of young adults and the Long-term Care, all indicate a need for fresh thoughts and working methods. Responding to this need, “social innovation” has been seen as a way of developmental social work practice. 臺灣災害管理學會於2006 月10 月28 日由國內產、官、學、研各界熱心參與災害防救相關研發與實務工作之學者專家共同籌組成立，並推舉長期推動災害防救科技研發與實務工作，現任財團法人工業技術研究院蔡清彥董事長擔任創會理事長，現任第五屆理事長為臺灣大學生物環境系統工程學系許銘熙特聘教授、秘書長張倉榮為臺灣大學生物環境系統工程學系教授兼水工試驗所主任。會員數截至2016 年11 月3 日止，共有189 位個人會員，18 個團體會員。自成立以來辦理近54 場研討會、58 場講座，包括推動籌備「921 地震十週年紀念國際學術研討會」、第二屆都市防災國際研討會（ICUDR）、The 2nd Asian Conference on Urban Disaster Reduction （2nd ACUDR 2014）等大型國際研討會。本學會以加強災害防救跨領域之互動與整合、促進災害防救學術技術與實務應用之交流、培育災害管理專業人才、提升災害防救科技水準、減輕災害損失為宗旨，歡迎各領域有志防救災相關人士加入我們的行列！
