Many applications in science and engineering require a digital model of a real physical object. Advanced scanning technology has made it possible to scan such objects and generate point samples on their boundaries. This book, first published in 2007, shows how to compute a digital model from this point sample. After developing the basics of sampling theory and its connections to various geometric and topological properties, the author describes a suite of algorithms that have been designed for the reconstruction problem, including algorithms for surface reconstruction from dense samples, from samples that are not adequately dense and from noisy samples. Voronoi- and Delaunay-based techniques, implicit surface-based methods and Morse theory-based methods are covered. Scientists and engineers working in drug design, medical imaging, CAD, GIS, and many other areas will benefit from this first book on the subject.

Avoiding overly large blocks of code used in most other database programming books, this book shows a simple and easy way to create database programs and explains how to build professional and practical databases more efficiently. In addition to Design Tools and Wizards, the runtime object method is also discussed and analyzed to let users design and implement more sophisticated data-driven applications with complicated coding techniques. Three popular database systems – Microsoft Access, SQL Server 2005, and Oracle Database 10g Express Edition (XE) – are discussed in detail, with practical examples and sample projects. This book will appeal to college students, programmers, and software engineers alike. Sample code and additional exercise questions for students, as well as solutions and lecture slides for instructors, are available via the Web (www.cambridge.org/9780521712354).

Essentials of Software Testing

出版日:2021/08/31 作者:Ralf Bierig  出版社:Cambridge Univ Pr  裝訂:精裝
Software testing can be regarded as an art, a craft, and a science. The practical, step-by-step approach presented in this book provides a bridge between these different viewpoints. A single worked example runs throughout, with consistent use of test automation. Each testing technique is introduced in the context of this example, helping students see its strengths and weaknesses. The technique is then explained in more detail, providing a deeper understanding of underlying principles. Finally the limitations of each technique are demonstrated by inserting faults, giving learners concrete examples of when each technique succeeds or fails in finding faults. Coverage includes black-box testing, white-box testing, random testing, unit testing, object-oriented testing, and application testing. The authors also emphasise the process of applying the techniques, covering the steps of analysis, test design, test implementation, and interpretation of results. The book's web site has programming

Statistical Methods for Recommender Systems
滿額折
出版日:2015/12/31 作者:Deepak K. Agarwal  出版社:Cambridge Univ Pr  裝訂:精裝
Designing algorithms to recommend items such as news articles and movies to users is a challenging task in numerous web applications. The crux of the problem is to rank items based on users' responses to different items to optimize for multiple objectives. Major technical challenges are high dimensional prediction with sparse data and constructing high dimensional sequential designs to collect data for user modeling and system design. This comprehensive treatment of the statistical issues that arise in recommender systems includes detailed, in-depth discussions of current state-of-the-art methods such as adaptive sequential designs (multi-armed bandit methods), bilinear random-effects models (matrix factorization) and scalable model fitting using modern computing paradigms like MapReduce. The authors draw upon their vast experience working with such large-scale systems at Yahoo! and LinkedIn, and bridge the gap between theory and practice by illustrating complex concepts with examples

This is a step-by-step introduction to object-oriented software development. It is suitable for teaching and for self study by practising software engineers seeking to add rigour to their techniques. Seven complete case studies are included along with several smaller examples derived from small software projects developed for and delivered to real users. These examples make use of a bridge process, which presents a systematic approach for developing analysis models and unfolding these incrementally and iteratively through to design models and implementation. The process could be viewed as one example of unified software development and has the potential of being scalable to large software problems. It also provides a model for organising deliverables obtained throughout different phases of the software life cycle. These case studies provide a medium for experimental use and act as templates that can be tailored by readers to fit their specific needs and circumstances.
