On December 14, 1944, Japanese soldiers massacred 139 of 150 American POWs. This biography tells the story of Glenn ("Mac") McDole, one of eleven young men who escaped and the last man out of Palawan Prison Camp 10A. Beginning on December 8, 1941, at the U.S. Navy Yard barracks at Cavite, the story of this young Iowa Marine continues through the fighting on Corregidor, the capture and imprisonment by the Japanese Imperial Army in May 1942, Mac's entry into the Palawan prison camp in the Philippines on August 12, 1942, the terrible conditions he and his comrades endured in the camps, and the terrible day when 139 young soldiers were slaughtered. 為適應“雙一流”建設要求，我國普通高校教育學院面臨裁撤與新設的“矛盾”處境，在此種境況下，我國教育學院的功能也發生了一定的變化，甚至是“異化”。因此，為明晰我國高校教育學院的發展定位，理清教育學院在所處高校系統組織中發揮了何種功能，並且推動其找到適合自身的發展方式，本調查研究以我國高校教育學院為研究對象，通過對1275所本科院校中406所高校教育學院的發展現狀以及結構現狀展開了研究，並在此基礎上選出15所具有典型性的高校教育學院作為多案例研究的樣本。本研究基於結構功能主義的分析範式，運用三級編碼與紮根理論對所選取樣本進行了分析歸納，形成了適應功能、目標達成功能、整合功能、潛在模式維持功能四個核心類屬層次功能，以及十六個範疇化類屬層次功能。進而基於平衡計分卡(BSC)的視角，從財務(Financial)、顧客(Customer)、內部流程(Internal Processes)、學習和成長(Learning and Growth)四個維度初步構建了我國普通高校教育學院績效評價的指標體系；再次，運用德爾菲法對初步建立的指標體系進行遴選，並利用探索性因子分析(EFA)和結構方程模型(SEM)對遴選後的指標體系進行優化；最後，利用層次分析法(AHP)對優化後的指標體系權重大小進行計算，進而構建出我國普通高校教育學院績效評價的指標體系。具體的指標體系分4個一級指標、12個二級指標和47個具體觀測點，其中財務維度的權重為7.1%、顧客維度的權重為55%、內部主營業務流程維度的權重為23.8%、學習和成長維度的權重為14.1%。通過指標體系的構建，以期為我國普通高校教育學院績效評價提供客觀的第三方評價工具，為教育學院的科學治理提供參考，為我國教育學院的內涵式發展提供借鑒。
