Introduction to Computing

In ancient times, scholars such as Confucius and Aristotle expounded on the virtue of the “middle way” or “intermediate,” an ideal point of moderation or balance between the extremes of human behavior. Adam Smith, widely considered the father of modern economics as we know it, also encouraged propriety in his first work, The Theory of Moral Sentiments. Since then, different schools of economics have continued to incorporate the idea of propriety into their theories, for example in such concepts as equilibrium and bounded rationality, though few economists have defined it explicitly. In light of growing uncertainty and polarization around the world, propriety economics offers alternative solutions for markets, governments, and everyday citizens. This book embarks on a thorough review of Eastern and Western philosophies of propriety over the past 2,500 years, followed by an investigation of the ideas of propriety found in five key schools of economics: classical, neoclassical, institution

Plant remains can preserve a critical part of history of life on Earth. While telling the fascinating evolutionary story of plants and vegetation across the last 500 million years, this book also crucially offers non-specialists a practical guide to studying, dealing with and interpreting plant fossils. It shows how various techniques can be used to reveal the secrets of plant fossils and how to identify common types, such as compressions and impressions. Incorporating the concepts of evolutionary floras, this second edition includes revised data on all main plant groups, the latest approaches to naming plant fossils using fossil-taxa and techniques such as tomography. With extensive illustrations of plant fossils and living plants, the book encourages readers to think of fossils as once-living organisms. It is written for students on introductory or intermediate courses in palaeobotany, palaeontology, plant evolutionary biology and plant science, and for amateurs interested in studyin

" This clear presentation of the most fundamental models of random phenomena employs methods that recognize computer-related aspects of theory. Topics include probability spaces and random variables,

Focusing solely on well-known religions is an approach that impoverishes religious studies. Rather, this book introduces the diverse religious experience of Africans, Native Americans, and the indigen

An Introduction to Marine Biogeochemistry focuses on the ocean's role in the biogeochemical cycling of selected elements and the impact of humans on the cycling of these elements. Among the topics cov

Pulsed spallation neutron sources first came online in the 1980s. This was a new technology and methodology, and it took time to prove its usefulness. Today, pulsed neutron sources are replacing traditional reactor sources across the world. These include ISIS in UK since 1984, SNS in USA since 2006, J-PARC/MLF in Japan since 2008, CSNS in China since 2018, and ESS, which is now under construction in Sweden. The population of pulsed neutron scattering scientists will rapidly increase over the next decade. The time-of-flight method is commonly used at pulsed sources. It can effectively utilize the polychromatic beam by analysing the time of travel of neutrons, following their production by the impact of a pulse on the neutron target. Accelerator, source, and instruments are coupled together in sequence, and the experimental performance arises from the combination of these components. Different design parameters of the system change the character of an instrument and its experimental perfo
