The Politics of Higher Education: The Imperial University in Northern Song China uses the history of the Imperial University of the Northern Song to show the limits of the Song emperors’ powers. At the time, the university played an increasingly dominant role in selecting government officials. This role somehow curtailed the authority of the Song emperors, who did not possess absolute power and, more often than not, found their actions to be constrained by the institution. The nomination mechanism left room for political maneuvering and stakeholders—from emperors to scholar-officials—tried to influence the process. Hence, power struggles among successive emperors trying to assert their imperial authority ensued. Demands for greater autonomy by officials were, for example, unceasing. Chu Ming-kin shows that the road to autocracy was anything but linear. In fact, during the Northern Song dynasty, competition and compromises over diverse agendas constantly altered the political landscape

This study examined the relationship between ethical leadership and multidimensional organizational citizenship behaviors (OCBs), specifically organization-targeted OCBs (OCBO) and individual-targeted OCBs (OCBI). In addition, the study examined the multiple mediating effects of selfefficacy, respect, and leader-member exchange (LMX) on the relationship between ethical leadership and OCBO, as well as the relationship between ethical leadership and OCBI. Through the application of a hierarchical linear model, an analysis of the results from 656 dyadic supervisor- subordinate data from 145 business units in Taiwan showed that both respect and LMX significantly mediated the ethical leadership-OCBO and -OCBI relationships. The implications of these results for theory and practice and directions for future research are also discussed.

Dimensions of Originality investigates the issue of conceptual originality in art criticism of the seventeenth century, a period in which China dynamically reinvented itself. In art criticism, the term which was called upon to indicate conceptual originality more than any other was qi 奇, literally, "different"; but secondarily, "odd," like a number and by extension, "the novel," and "extraordinary." This work finds that originality, expressed through visual difference, was a paradigmatic concern of both artists and critics. Burnett speculates on why many have dismissed originality as a possible "traditional Chinese" value, and the ramifications this has had on art historical understanding. Transforming History examines the profound transformation of historical thought and practice of writing history from the late Qing through the mid-twentieth century. The authors devote extensive analysis to the common set of intellectual and political forces that shaped the study of history, from the ideas of evolution, positivism, nationalism, historicism, and Marxism, to political processes such as revolution, imperialism, and modernization. 針頭及尖銳物刺傷是醫療人員最常見的職業傷害，因此強制通報與持續性的監控是保障醫療人員工作安全與權益的重要措施。本所自民國九十三年起開始鼓勵國內醫療院所透過中文版之EPINet (Exposure Prevention Information Network) 做為通報工具，並定期分析其結果。截至96年12月1日為止，共累計有1,545位個案報告，其中1,470位的醫療人員是受到針頭或尖銳物的刺傷，另外75位醫療人員則是受到病患血液或體液的暴觸。本年度嘗試以工作職稱(job specific)做為針扎防制效果之指標，結果發現護理人員、清潔人員及醫技人員的事件發生率均逐年下降；而整體的針扎率亦由2004年的4.4次降至2007年的2.9次。本年度亦針對業務承辦人員及醫療工作人員進行滿意度的調查。業務承辦人員方面的結果顯示，64% (16人)對此系統感到滿意， 36% (9人)覺得普通；而其中有88% (22人)贊成全國統一使用此系統，4% (1人)不贊同，此外，76% (19人)覺得使用此通報系統後員工的工作安全意識有提升。至於773位受訪的醫療工作人員中，63.3% (489人)認為在醫院使用EPINet針扎通報系統後，院內員工的安全意識有因此而提升。此外，高達68.3% (528人)的受訪者表示針扎事件對心理造成很大的影響，53% (410人)認為對其生理亦造成很大的影響。因此我們認為有必要針對被針扎者之心理與生理影響做進一步的探討，以瞭解並計算出針扎事件對醫療人員的真正危害程度與經濟影響的層面為何。本年度亦將國內之針扎結果與其他EPINet使用國家之針扎統計資料進行比較，我們發現台灣的針扎主因為回套，除了日本之外(資料為1996-2000年) ，遠高於其他國家；顯示有必要進一步瞭解針具的特性，例如若改使用安全性針具是否為降低因回套而引起之針扎之主要因子。此外，在台灣，這些意外事件所花費的費用（包括醫療人員、病人在檢查費、治療費及其他費用上的花費）總共是新台幣2,111,164元整；若以臺灣每年約8,286次針扎估算之，則平均每年因針扎所產生（不包含治療與病假或心理創傷等問題）之檢驗的費用就約為新台幣11,900,000元。因此我們覺得有必要進一步地精算，以瞭解針扎的真正”費用”。另外，今年也搜集一些國家針扎的相關法規以做為台灣未來繼續推動針扎與血液體液暴觸通報及制
