Jiyu is the pen name of Shou-Fang Hu-Moore. During graduate studies at the University of Alberta her life took a dramatic turn owing to a leukemia diagnosis. Upon hearing the news, the young man with whom she had only recently entered into a serious relationship and who would soon be attending medical school, immediately proposed to her. Thus started their lifelong journey together dealing with this terminal disease, while continuing their studies and careers.
