國內重大自然災難新聞傳播相關研究自九二一開始發展，回顧過去相關研究可以發現，災難新聞出現問題大抵為：一、災難新聞報導內容不時出現不符合專業規範的新聞表現，包括密集報導血腥驚悚畫面、違反客觀專業原則、罔顧新聞倫理等；二、記者為搶快、搶獨家，在災難現場採訪時干擾現場救災、賑災，採訪行為也時有造成災民二次傷害的情形。相對於過去採取結果論、常以新聞內容進行分析，本書採取「回到新聞工作者具體的勞動論述和實作」的角度，藉由新聞工作者的工作經驗和故事敘述，帶出新聞現場的困境與行動，及其導致的結果。本書共分為六章，以2009年的八八風災和2011年的日本三一一複合式災難這兩個重大災害的新聞工作經驗研究作為基礎，藉由與新聞工作者的深度訪談，分析和解釋災難新聞產製過程，新聞工作者所面對的種種不確定性，如何造成記者做新聞的勞動條件、記者（身心）安全、新聞專業表現的惡化。本書研究發現，在充滿不確定性的災難情境中，新聞工作者雖然不乏有追求新聞公信力者，卻也有許多人以追求個人或組織利益為訴求來「做」新聞，而這些文化腳本也影響了八八風災和三一一複合式災難的新聞產製實作走向，導致臺灣新聞的實際表現偏離傳統的專業倫理，最後歸納記者的專業反思、職業認同，由此提出未來建立重大災難新聞專業的建議。

《Garo》系漫畫，還能為這個時代帶來什麼？2018年第21屆日本文化廳媒體藝術祭推薦作品收錄〈電話．睡眠．音樂〉作者川勝德重出道時期劇畫作品「我總算想起最適合形容這部作品的詞彙了：新浪潮。就是它了。」──小西康陽〈電話‧睡眠‧音樂〉卻接受聽覺不可傳達的前提，絲毫不再現音樂，也不凸顯音樂的情緒感染效果。在川勝的「音樂」介質中，訊息無法傳遞，溝通不可能完成──女子的男友與男性友人都試圖在舞池內對女子說話，女子的反應兩度都是：「你在說什麼，我聽不到。」狀聲詞、音樂類型、始末（敘事感）全部付之闕如，聲音以無性質、透明的姿態充塞作品中段，行使暴力。──Mangasick2016年，川勝德重在日本LEED社網路漫畫平台「to-ti web」上，發布了一篇名為〈電話．睡眠．音樂〉的短篇，並以此篇短篇廣為日本年輕人所知，被譽為日本漫畫的新浪潮。在這篇短篇中，川勝德重描寫一名名為「美代子」的年輕女性，既無法取得與男友的聯繫，又羞於使用語音留言功能，只好前往澀谷，去到男友工作的夜店，在震耳欲聾的音樂聲中，美代子無法聽見男友說什麼，也無法與男性友人交談。美代子就這樣在夜店喝酒、晃蕩、觀察，睡去又醒來，在凌晨時間，拖著疲憊的身軀，還有一點點與男友分手的決心，走向澀谷車站。這篇劇情乍看平淡，卻在20-30歲之間廣為流傳的作品，是自川勝德重自2011年於《幻燈》出道以來，在這十幾年間作為受柘植義春等Garo系前輩影響至深的新一代創作者，蓄積已久的成名作。以其同名短篇命名的《電話．睡眠．音樂》一書，則收錄了川勝德重一路以來一手寫漫畫評論，一手以漫畫釐清初期創作脈絡的短篇：改編藤枝靜男、梅崎春生等短篇小說，以及多篇從不同面向思索「東京」這座城市的過去與現在的實驗短篇。
