Cell Physiology Source Book, Fifth Edition covers a broad range of topics in cell physiology. The book discusses research areas that have become active since the last edition (e.g., aquaporins, apicoplast and other organelles) and broadens its scope to include chronobiology, expansion of receptor/sensory physiology, endocrinology, and other topics such as quorum sensing and taxis. As methods or approaches on performing experiments appear to be very valuable parts of books to which readers tend to frequently refer, expansion of these types of chapters and/or appendices are included in this edition. Applicable to scientists, researchers, postdocs and graduate students across physiological, biochemical, biological and biomedical backgrounds, cell physiology is important for understanding larger organisms and potential advances in biomedicine.

The Evolution of Pragmatism in India: Ambedkar, Dewey, and the Rhetoric of Reconstruction

出版日:2023/01/30 作者:Scott R. Stroud  出版社:Univ of Chicago Pr  裝訂:平裝
The story of how the Indian reformer Bhimrao Ambedkar reimagined John Dewey's pragmatism. In The Evolution of Pragmatism in India, Scott R. Stroud delivers a comprehensive exploration of the influence of John Dewey's pragmatism on Bhimrao Ambedkar, architect of the Republic of India's constitution. Stroud traces Ambedkar's development in Dewey's Columbia University classes in 1913-1916 through his final years in 1950s India when he rewrote the story of Buddhism. Stroud examines pragmatism's influence not only on the philosophical ideas underpinning Ambedkar's fight against caste oppression but also how his persuasive techniques drew on pragmatism's commitment to reconstruction and meliorism. At the same time, Stroud is careful to point out the ways that Ambedkar pushed back against Dewey's paradigm and developed his own approach to challenges in India. The result is a nuanced study of one of the most important figures in Indian history.

The Evolution of Electronic Dance Music establishes EDM’s place on the map of popular music. The book accounts for various ambiguities, variations, transformations, and manifestations of EDM, pertaining to its generic fragmentation, large geographical spread, modes of consumption and, changes in technology. It focuses especially on its current state, its future, and its borders – between EDM and other forms of electronic music, as well as other forms of popular music. It accounts for the rise of EDM in places that are overlooked by the existing literature, such as Russia and Eastern Europe, and examines the multi-media and visual aspects such as the way EDM events music are staged and the specificity of EDM music videos. Divided into four parts – concepts, technology, celebrity, and consumption – this book takes a holistic look at the many sides of EDM culture.

Mutual Aid:A Factor of Evolution
滿額折
出版日:2022/11/03 作者:Peter Kropotkin  出版社:Penguin Books Ltd  裝訂:平裝
A pioneering treatise on embracing cooperation and reciprocity to usher in a greener and more inclusive world, from the major anarchist thinkerA Penguin ClassicWelcome to the anarchist history of the world. In this lively, provocative work, Peter Kropotkin argues that "mutual aid" is a natural instinct in all of us, animal and human. Cooperation, reciprocity, support: these, for Kropotkin, are the overlooked foundations of our history. From the earliest days of evolution through to artisanal guilds, indigenous nomads, and even the Royal National Lifeboat Association, it is a pragmatic, mutually beneficial bond to our fellow humans that has allowed us to survive. In this, Kropotkin challenges all the major orthodoxies of his age, from individualism and social Darwinism to Marxist theories of the savior state. Instead, these essays insist that a better life for all of us--and our planet--begins when we reject competition, and embrace the local, the mutual, and the collective.
