This reader is designed for an intermediate-level Chinese course in which students not only develop proficiency in the Chinese language but also gain some knowledge of Chinese culture. It consists of twenty-two lessons, which are arranged according to their level of difficulty. Each lesson contains a core text and a reading text. More Than 1001 Days and Nights of Hong Kong Internment is the wartime journal of Sir Chaloner Grenville Alabaster, former attorney-general of Hong Kong and one of the three highest-ranking British officials during the Japanese occupation. He was imprisoned by the Japanese at the Stanley Internment Camp from 1941 to 1945. During his internment, he managed to keep a diary of his life in the camp in small notebooks and hid them until his release in 1945. He then wrote his wartime journal on the basis of these notes. 由於智慧型行動電話與平板裝置的快速發展，使得行動上網人口大為增加;加上各種多媒體應用服務的興起，造成行動通訊業者現有2G/3G網路的處理容量受到嚴峻挑戰。在這樣的情形之下，行動通訊業者選擇將原有的行動網路升級4G標準，期待藉由其高速傳輸、低成本與低延遲的特性，解決2G/3G網路頻寬不足的問題，並提供用戶更好的使用者經驗。根據ITU最初的定義，4G網路必須提供使用者在高速移動時大於100Mb/s的傳輸速率，在低速移動與靜止時的傳輸速率能達到1Gb/s。ITU於2010年12月對4G網路的認定，除了先前通過的LTE-Advanced與WiMAX 2之外，其相關技術如LTE、HSPA+與WiMAX也同樣適用。依然ITU內部的流程，4G標準的細部規範將2011年出爐，並於2012要年初公布其最終的版本。而LTE系統標準與其他4G技術相比，有三個明顯的優勢:一、是與WiMAX標準相比，LTE容易與現有的2G/3G網路整合;二、與是HSPA+相比，LTE採用的是正交頻分多址技術，能夠有效抵抗多路徑衰變造成的影響;最後是LTE的傳輸性能優於其他標準，因此能提供用戶更好的使用者經驗。至2010年全球共有15家電信業者推出LTE商用網路，其中包括美國的Verizon Wireless與日本的NTT Dodomo，由於這些營運商擁有龐大行動電話用戶數，因此帶動晶片、終端產品、局端設備、測試設備等業者加快LTE技術、產品研發的速度，使得LTE產業鏈快速成形。而受惠於逐漸成熟LTE產業鏈，多元化之終端產品將如雨春筍推出市場，實有助LTE用戶市場的起飛。
