Using Pro Tools in Music Education

Using Pro Tools in Music Education contains a six-module course for high-school and college teachers who wish to integrate Avid Pro Tools, the premier digital-audio application, into the classroom environment. Author Robin Hodson lays out strategies for quickly utilizing the complex software in various class programs. The book comes with a DVD-ROM featuring 41 tutorial movies (total running time: three hours) that cover all major aspects of learning Pro Tools.

Part 1, "An Introduction to Pro Tools," lays out the basics, telling you what you'll need to equip yourself and your classroom and supplying important information needed for support and upgrades of Pro Tools hardware and software.

Part 2, "Teach Yourself Pro Tools," addresses the details of music recording, editing, and mixing, with a wealth of illustrations to help keep you on track as you master the application.

Part 3, "Pro Tools Curriculum," presents the six modules designed for classroom instruction. Modules are presented with layout points including time allocation, topics covered, keyboard shortcuts, additional references, and other tools.

The accompanying DVD-ROM contains the "skills acquisition" tutorial videos and provides additional clips that enhance each course module.

Robin Hodson is the mid-Atlantic manager for SoundTree.com, based in Baltimore, Maryland. An accomplished composer and performer, he is also a recording engineer, songwriter, and arranger. Educated at Oxford University before moving to the U.S. in 1999, Hodson worked for Sibelius and Avid for 13 years, training administrators in universities and schools throughout the U.S. and Canada on how to use Avid music-technology products. He joined SoundTree in the summer of 2009.
