商品簡介
The multiplicity of interactions between the Islamic world began in the eighth century and took place in the context of a trading network. Musk was one of the main trade items from the Himalayas; in the 13th century the spread of the Mongol empire facilitated further exchanges. Culture and knowledge flowed in both directions, and evidence of the interchange in many fields--cartography, medicine, art, education, literature, religion--offers rich potential for study, and yet has been neglected. This volume addresses these topics. Most of the 18 papers originated at a 2006 conference titled "Islam and Tibet: Cultural Interactions" held at the Warburg Institute, U. of London. A section of color plates enhances the text. The three editors are affiliated as follows: Anna Akasoy (U. of Oxford, UK); Charles Burnett (Warburg Institute U. of London); and Ronit Yoeli-Tlalim (U. of London).
