商品簡介
Engineers sometimes want direct empirical tests of the bearing capacity of the soil on which they plan to put the foundation of a structure, in order to verify theoretical calculations and indirect tests, but static load tests on piles are time consuming and expensive, so rapid load tests have been developed that might--or might not--provide the same information with close to the same reliability. Specialist engineers here describe the tests, the testing of the tests to determine how and how well they work, and what if any tailoring is required to make the results both comprehensible and commensurate with standard results. Their topics include load transfer in rapid load pile tests in clay, determining concrete stress, rapid model pile load tests in the geotechnical centrifuge, and a draft standard for executing a test. The research project was centered at Delft University, The Netherlands. It is not indexed. Annotation c2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
