Much of the writing about Anishinaabe (Ojibwe or Chippewa) botanical knowledge by non-Anishnaabe authors comes in the form of "colonized texts," according to Geniusz (American Indian studies, U. of Wisconsin at Eau Claire), in that they serve the interests of the colonizers and the process of systemic racism and oppression or they present information according to the philosophies, cosmologies, and knowledge-keeping systems of the colonizers. However, they may contain information that could be useful for programs revitalizing Anishinaabe culture, provided they can be decolonized by removing degrading comments and bringing the information back into the context of the Anishinaabe worldview.
