商品簡介
The staff of the Albany Institute of History & Art (one of the oldest museums in the US, founded in 1791) combined efforts to produce this inviting book to accompany a 2009 exhibition of the same name. The exhibition was created to commemorate Henry Hudson's 1609 exploration of the river and to tell about the 400 years that have elapsed. With an attractively designed balance of graphics and narrative (the 11x8" horizontal format is an agreeable scale), the book affords a journey-like perusal of the river's natural history and environment, followed by exploration of its functions over the years for transportation, trade, commerce and industry, and its role in the culture of the region and as a symbol. Depictions of the river in photos and paintings, and photos of objects related to the river's many ties with people accompany the text, which was prepared by museum curators Groft, McCombs, and Greene-McNally, and an essay by John R. Stilgoe, director. Annotation c2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
