商品簡介
Dabrowska (English language and linguistics, U. of Sheffield, UK) explores ways in which linguistics can benefit by incorporating insights from other disciplines. The author examines relevant research in language processing, acquisition, and impairment, comparative psychology, and genetics to develop a set of "design specifications" for language which could serve as the starting point of any linguistic theory. The general specifications are then applied to three central aspects of linguistic organization--lexical semantics, inflectional morphology, and syntax--exploring each area from both a developmental perspective and from the adult end state. Scholarly but accessible to even beginning-level students. Annotation c2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
