商品簡介
Ramsdell, a retired librarian at California State U., East Bay, and romance columnist for Library Journal, offers librarians, readers, booksellers, writers, scholars, researchers, and students a guide to romance novels. She emphasizes newer titles (but includes classic ones), those in English, and both male and female authors, and summarizes selected titles in each subgenre as well as its appeal, history, and hints for readers' advisory. She excludes biographical material and omits authors who only write e-books. This edition has new chapters on linked and continuing romances and erotic romances, a new section on chick lit, and a section on urban fantasy. The chapter on sagas has been deleted. All other subgenre chapters have been updated, revised, and in some cases, reorganized or expanded, and the history sections have been expanded for new events. Reading lists are provided in new sidebars and subgenre definitions are given in box formats. The introductory chapters on appeal, readers' advisory, and collection development have been revised and updated to incorporate new trends, issues, and concerns, including the impact of technology. Chapters on research aids, history and criticism, and publishers have been revised and expanded. Annotation Ac2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
