Engineering Design

Karsnitz et al. (technological design, electrical engineering, and professional studies, College of New Jersey) provide high school students exploring careers in engineering and technology with a textbook on the principles and concepts that engineers and design professionals use. It uses problem/project-based learning to demonstrate principles, organizes chapters around concepts, and includes applications, projects, and problems based on real-world engineering problems, as well as case studies, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) principles, and other resources. It describes the process of engineering and technology product design, including developing a team and ideas, reverse engineering, investigation and research for design development, testing and evaluating, and manufacturing, then specific skill sets and competencies needed for the process, including the design of structural, mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems, as well as human factors and graphics and presentation. This edition has more information on current careers, including the characteristics of sub-disciplines and career profiles; more on technical drawing; updates to research tools; and a new chapter on design styles.
