商品簡介
A substantial augmentation of the original edition, which was published in 1999, this second edition reference now occupies four volumes instead of three. Approximately 1200 entries are arranged alphabetically in the first three volumes. Each volume includes a section of b&w line maps in the front matter and the index for the entire set. The entries themselves are signed and include references and cross references. The fourth volume is devoted to an expanded collection of documents, many of which are newly translated; and they are now presented with detailed introductions. Also included in the fourth volume are helpful and important appendices explicating unit designations, military ranks, and order of battle; a chronology of Vietnam's history (from 2879 BCE to July 1976); a glossary; a bibliography; and a categorical index of entries (individuals, events, organizations, places, ideas and movements, technologies, agreements, and miscellaneous). This is an impressively comprehensive, accessible reference that will serve a wide audience--no doubt for many years--improved periodically with new editions. Editor Tucker, a military historian, was a US Army captain and an intelligence analyst in the Pentagon during the Vietnam War, then taught for 30 years at Texas Christian U. and another six years at Virginia Military Institute.
