商品簡介
Hucklesby (criminal justice, U. of Leeds, UK) details the Effective Bail Scheme, a bail support scheme evaluated by the Centre for Criminal Justice Studies at the U. of Leeds during its first 18 months. The scheme was used in ten courts in Yorkshire and Humberside between 2006 and 2010 and provided bail support for adult defendants to divert them from custodial remands, increased court attendance and compliance with bail conditions, and reduced alleged offending on bail. Introductory chapters describe the prison remand population and bail law and practice, arguments for maximizing the use of bail, and current knowledge about support and information schemes. Subsequent chapters discuss the findings of their evaluation, its research design, governance and staffing structures, the take-up and caseload, characteristics of defendants and work with them, stakeholders' and defendants' views of the program, and interim outcome measures.
