Tell Hamoukar ─ Urbanism and Cultural Landscapes in Northeastern Syria: The Tell Hamoukar Survey, 1999-2001

Using field survey and satellite remote-sensing techniques (declassified intelligence satellite photos), Ur (anthropology, Harvard U.) studies various types of impact of early urban communities on their landscapes. He looks at spatial dimensions, agricultural systems, and communications networks of the ancient Near East. This oversize volume (9x12") reports on Tell Hamoukar--located within the Syrian Arab Republic--presenting in detail the Survey project's goals and findings. An extensive bibliography precedes the introductory chapter, which is followed by coverage of the physical environment and recent processes of landscape formation, field methodology, settlement and movement patterns in the region, and landscapes through time.
