Ved Mehta was a staff writer on The New Yorker from 1961 to 1994. He held the Rosenkranz chair in writing at Yale University, 1990-93; was Visiting Fellow at Balliol College, Oxford, 1988-89; and has taught literature and history at other colleges and universities, among them Williams and Vassar.
