Feeling Sad

Sarah Verroken is a graphic designer and illustrator, who graduated in 2006 with a Master’s Degree in the Visual Arts/Illustration. Her Master’s thesis was the picture book Feeling Sad, first published in Dutch by Clavis Books and then in English by Walker Books Australia. Born in Belgium in 1982, Sarah began her career as an artist by drawing turtles—correction: a very specific turtle—as soon as she realized that a pencil was not merely a projectile. When she was 20, a whole new episode began with the discovery that there is more to picture making than turtles. In 2007 Sarah moved to New Zealand. Surrounded by beautiful birds and stunning landscapes, Sarah is constantly inspired. Her favorite techniques include woodcut and Photoshop, plus everything else that can leave an impression on a piece of paper.
