The book you are holding is the answer to questions we have asked hundreds of students like you: How do you study? How do you use your textbook? Do you use online homework problems to help you succeed? Many students told us they don't buy any textbook, new or used. That didn't surprise us, and we know it won't surprise you.

After listening to students, we turned to you for your thoughts about the solutions students asked for, including briefer chapters, end-of-chapter review cards, and a clear and colorful design. Faculty from schools across the country joined us online and in face-to-face conversations to help us refine these solutions into a text their students could relate to and benefit from.

CHEM is the result of those conversations: content you expect, presented in a format that you prefer. The student website tools include flashcards, videos, interactive quizzing, an online glossary and much more.

We hope you will consider this new student-tested, faculty-approved textbook for your survey course and that you will send us your thoughts about CHEM as you use it in class. In return, we will strive to continually improve your learning experience.
