41 Active Learning Strategies for the Inclusive Classroom, Grades 6-12

Cassle-Giannola (Rider U.) and Green (students with disabilities certification program, Centenary College) show teachers how to help all students in grades six through 12 achieve positive learning outcomes using 41 adaptable active learning strategies. Similar to their previous book, 40 Active Learning Strategies for the Inclusive Classroom, Grades K-5, they begin with an expanded and modified introductory chapter on the research and inclusion challenges at the secondary level and characteristics of the adolescent learner, and the foundation and historical context of inclusive practice, then discuss the efficacy of using active learning for the upper grades, how to select and implement strategies for individual students, and small group and whole group instruction. Strategies include 10 from the previous book that have been revised with examples and vignettes that reflect middle and high school curriculum and standards. They detail the purpose, materials, advance preparation, directions, sample applications in different content areas, implementation considerations, how they can support students with learning differences, and vignettes.
