Autism currently affects 1/88 children in the United States, and the needs far outweigh the resources available to help these little ones. The purpose of the book is to empower and encourage parents (and other front-line educators like teachers, tutors, aides, relatives, and friends) to reach and work effectively with their own children with autism.
The array of educational therapies for parents to choose from for their child with autism can feel overwhelming and confusing. This book attempts to distill the options into an integrated set of practical principles, following a step by step developmental framework, full of real life stories and examples that anyone can follow and understand. It's the book of the missing steps that Joyce Show wishes she had had when she embarked on her journey with her son Peter. Joyce Show believes there is real hope for children with autism, even those with severe levels of disability. Through this book she wants to share that hope with other families that are engaged in this struggle.
作者簡介
Joyce Show is a Harvard/MIT trained physician with dual certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Geriatrics. She is also the mother of seven children, including a son with severe autism. She has spent the last 10 years raising her family and researching educational treatments for autism and learning disabilities. In her free time she advocates and fundraises for improved public education for children with special needs, teaches bible study classes at her parish church, and is an active member of a parent group called the Foothill Autism Alliance, California.
