Oil Producing Countries and Oil Companies

This collection of fifteen articles on oil production in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries showcases current scholarship in the relationships between selected national oil companies and world markets as well as international and regional issues of supply and delivery. Topics discussed include French oil sources and supply networks, regional and historical crises in security and supply, Western relations with the Near and Middle East, South America, oil nationalism and political regimes, and nationalization in European national oil policies. Many essays are focused on France and French companies and the work is associated with the French National Center for Scientific Research. Alain Beltran belongs to the French National Centre for Scientific Research, as part of the unit IRICE located at the University of Paris I Pantheon-Sorbonne. For two years he was employed as a professor at the Ecole Normale Superieure de Cachan. He works mainly on the history of energy, business history and innovation. For more than ten years he has had the support of the company Total in developing work on the history of oil.
