商品簡介
Attracted by the frequency, richness, and diversity of speech representation in Greek adolescent communities of practice, Lampropoulou (linguistics and English language, Lancaster U., Britain) probes the complexity and diversity of speech representations, and tries to explain the various functions performed through direct speech in relation to both the local and the sociocultural context in which it is embedded. The data she uses was collected over 10 years ago for another study, and while she was re-transcribing it, she noticed how often the young people were talking about talking. Among the functions for this she finds are entertainment, evaluation, sharing, seeking advice, self-disclosure, self-promotion, and other-presentation. The quotations are presented in English. The study began as her PhD dissertation at Lancaster University in 2007. Annotation c2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
