Surveying the long and broad literature on a silent God, Korpel (Old Testament, Utrecht U., the Netherlands) and Moor (emeritus, Semitic languages, Theological U. Kampen, the Netherlands) cover the silent God in modernity, prerequisites for a fresh investigation, silence between humans in antiquity, how people addressed the deity, and how the deity addressed people. Among specific topics are Ingmar Bergman, metaphor in the philosophy of language, silence between people because of offenses in the ancient Near East, magic and sorcery in the Bible, prophets and seers, and comprehensible divine silence.
