商品簡介
The US passed the Secure Fence Act in 2006 to keep out illegal immigrants across the US-Mexico border. Mendoza (sociology, Chabot College, Hayward, CA) addresses issues posed by this barrier in the twin border communities of Laredo, TX and Nuevo, Laredo, Mexico. Based on interviews and participant observation, she studied Mexican women's temporary migration to work in American border cities as domestics to answer questions about their motivations, relationship with Mexican American employers, and complex role in American society. She concludes that these women are regarded in US border cities as an integral part of life, though their migration reinforces inequalities.
