Dr. Hamilton began her career in early childhood education in the 1980s as a child care teacher.Dr. Hamilton also coordinates the division of Children, Families and Schools at UMass Amherst;and she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in child development, early childhoodeducation, and elementary education. Her research interests include early literacy, early childhoodcurriculum, the social context of schooling, and technology-based learning and teaching.
Dr. Schwanenflugel teaches graduate and undergraduate courses for educators on educationalpsychology, human development, and psycholinguistics. Her research interests include earlyliteracy, reading fluency, and vocabulary development and their instruction. She has authoredor coauthored four books and numerous articles and chapters on early literacy and conceptualdevelopment in young children, among other topics.
