This volume contains the pleadings, minutes of public sittings, and documents related to the activities of the international Tribunal for the Law of the Sea for the year 1999. The entirety of the material is concerned with the Southern Bluefin Tuna Cases between New Zealand and Japan and between Australia and Japan (later joined by the Tribunal) resulting from New Zealand and Australia's requests for the prescription of provisional measures pursuant to article 290, paragraph 5, of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The initial requests for provisional responses, along with Japan's response and counter-request, are included with their annexes. Oral arguments and expert testimony is provided. Diplomatic notes, exhibitions, and other documentation are also included. Reports of judgments, opinions, and orders have been published in a separate volume. Nijhoff is an imprint of Brill.
