Historians and criminologists from Europe and North America explore how the history of crime can provide a way to study time, place, and culture, taking examples from Europe and the US from the 16th century to the late 20th. They use new approaches to understanding the meaning of crime in modern western culture, and highlight the new importance given to crime and criminal events in historical studies.
