The Bloomsbury Companion to Hobbes

This text is a thematic companion to the life, ideas and work, influence, and times of Thomas Hobbes. There are nearly 100 entries that range from half a page to several pages, each with their own bibliography and notes for further reading. No entry relies on knowledge of the others. They are arranged alphabetically within each of the seven thematic chapters on Hobbes' life and times; his methods in the context of science and philosophy; his metaphysics, epistemology and understanding of language; his moral psychology and its implicit philosophy; his understanding of the law and his infamous political philosophy; and his personal and political relationship to religion. The final chapter probes enduring debates both about Hobbes and the legacy of his philosophy.
