商品簡介
The idea of the "citizen without frontiers" refers to a kind of emergent politics in which citizens act, as citizens, across borders, according to Isin (politics, The Open U., England), who here seeks to identify where such activity exists and to develop a vocabulary for recognizing and understanding the phenomenon. Citing such groups as Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) or "celebrities without borders" such as Madonna or Bono, he notes that those who have enough cultural or symbolic capital are often recognized and encouraged as "citizens without frontiers," but many others without such social capital are instead criminalized and punished for enacting their political subjectivities by crossing borders, citing in these cases such movements as the solidarity struggles against apartheid, secessionist movements, the environmental movement, solidarity movements with refugees, and Wikileaks. In this volume he aims to unpack the heterogeneous complexities of the kinds of politics and political subjects that increasingly involve "citizens without frontiers." The discussion is carried out through conventional chapters discussing key theoretical and political issues, notes that provide further elaboration and consideration of controversial issues, and individual portraits of case examples.
